Background
In the DI team, a design pair (1 Ux architect and 1 UX designer) is usually despatched to 1 main flagship project. The ratio of designers to developers 2: 30 in a project team. The pair works in a very lean agile cycle to design many apps to make up a complex product.
Problems
UX is often out of the loop in the agile development process. The design pair often finds themselves overwhelmed with complexities and struggles with no proper design process and tools in their project, resulting in scope creep and bottlenecking. It is often difficult for them to leverage commercial UX knowledge to the multifaceted landscape in DSTA due to the non-linear and unstructured scope to handle.
Strategic Goals
1
Empower Designers to focus on their primary work - design and research.
2
Set new standards for executional and operational design excellence.
3
Establish systematic and efficient processes and measures to scale DI/UX in DSTA.
4
Evangelise and amplify the value of design
Research Goals
1
Make challenges and
complexities visible and tangible for better
communication targets.
2
People
Identify differences in design processes and operational pain points in workflows across design teams and partners.
3
Tech
Understand the tech landscape and design infrastructure in each project.
4
Business
Identify and socialise with higher ups for future plans and common good opportunities.
Internal Team Research
Curate the efficient processes, touch points and proper rituals that enable scalable solutions for rapidly escalating complexities in DSTA context, so that designers can focus on researching and designing.
Activities: Co-creation and service-blueprinting, Interviews
Understand the on-ground pain points in design process for each sprint for each design pair in each projects.
Activities: User Workflow and interviews
Understand the productivity challenges of each workflow in different environment for each design pair and projects.
Ongoing
1. Continuous research the ground pain points on design process and tools.
2. Review of new design infrastructure in view to resolve design software version differences in internet separated environment.
3. Improve the collaboration channels on designs and research data within the design pair as well as with stakeholders (PMs and users).
